Kaleidophonia I (2012)
for accordeon and ensemble

Written for Marieke Grotenhuis and Orkest De Ereprijs
First performed on February 3 2012, Marieke Grotenhuis, Orkest De Ereprijs, Wim Boerman

Program notes:
The idea for this piece comes from a kaleidoscope, a cylinder with mirrors containing loose, colored objects. As the viewer looks into one end, light entering the other creates a colorful pattern, due to the reflection off of the mirrors. To represent this in a musical way I took a four note pattern, that gets repeated but augmentated. From this slowly changing slur of notes I made a 28 voice canon that is pulled through different harmonies. This way all sorts of patterns in different colours emerge.
